One of the most iconic areas to eat in Madrid is the Plaza Mayor or around Plaza Mayor such as around the Mercado de San Miguel. These areas are filled with tapas bars, cafes and cozy restaurants and the atmosphere is as always on top where Spaniards gather to eat.

Also around the Puerta del Sol, there are a number of good tapas bars and restaurants serving everything from traditional tapas to so-called Picoteo, which is intended for a group of persons who share the food.

Another area in central Madrid which has a large variety of restaurants, the streets Calle Cava Baja and Calle Cava Alta. They are heading towards the market near the metro station La Latina.
