In case of an emergency you can call 112 which is a common phone number for all the rescue services fire, ambulance and police services all over Spain. It's completely free of charge and even works if you don't have a SIM card in your mobile phone. You can also ask for an English speaking operator.

Centro Salud
If you are on vacation in Spain remember to bring your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). you can order it online from NHS nhs.uk. Hospital Centro Salud is a hospital with 24 hour attention. If you don't speak Spanish you might want to go with someone who can translate for you.

Policia Nacional
Policia Local is where you can apply for a NIE-number or a residencia. If you need to report a crime, this can be done in English by calling 902 102 112 between 09 a.m. and 9 p.m. After reporting the crime you need to pay a visit to the Police Station to sign the report.

Madrid has excellent train connections to other major cities in Spain with the high-speed train AVE. AVE trains have largely ousted planes when it comes to domestic transport.With an AVE train you can travel from Madrid to Malaga or Alicante city center in just 2.5 hours skipping slow security checks, long lines and you don't need to be at the gate half an hour before departure. The travel time between Madrid and Barcelona is about 2 hours and 50 minutes with the AVE train. Tickets can be booked on www.renfe.com

Transport to and from the airport
Taxi: Taxi from the airport to Madrid costs about 30 €.
Train: The commuter Train goes between Madrid and the airport. It is an easy and comfortable means of travel if you are going to or from the airport. If yo arrive Madrid by train, you can travel for free with the commuter train to the airport. Yuo can get your free ticket in the ticket machine.
Bus: To get to the center of Madrid Airport you can take bus number 203, which stops at Placa de Cibeles, right in downtown Madrid. The bus has departures all day and takes about 30 minutes between the airport and Madrid city centre. During the day, the bus also stops at the Atocha train station.

Street Market
Street Market, Rastro Madrid Street Market in Madrid is called El Rastro and is more than 100 years old. The market takes place Sundays between 8.30 a.m and 3 p.m in Calle de la Ribera de Curtidores and the surrounding streets. It is south of the Plaza Mayor and it is a 15 minutes walk along Calle Toledo to get there. With the metro you can travel to La Latina or Puerta de Toledo.

On the street market you can find clothes, shoes, bags, hats, leather, books, furniture, rugs, watches, electrical appliances, telephones, comics, toys, car parts, tools, art and everything else under the sun.

There are many pickpockets at the street market, so you need to remember to take all precautions.
